About Us (Meet Our Team)

After decades of experience serving clients faced with the issues specific to aging as well as clients living with a disability, founders Laurie Hanson and Laura Zdychnec started Northwoods Law Group. Our intention is to continue serving our clients, expand our service area geographically, and to pass our knowledge and experience on to a new generation of elder law and special needs planning attorneys. Our name, Northwoods, is a reflection of our mutual love of all that nature offers in the north woods of Minnesota. We continue to serve our clients based in the Twin Cities and throughout the state, now with added emphasis on populations in Grand Marais and the Walker/Brainerd Lakes area.

We want to build long-lasting relationships with our clients and their families. We are also taking advantage of the lessons learned during the COVID-19 pandemic to focus on a virtual practice. The old saying, "Necessity is the mother of invention" means when faced with a difficult situation, we are inspired to create a novel or ingenious solution. We offer a variety of options for remote consultations, including telephone and video conferencing, allowing us to serve Minnesotans statewide. Geography (and weather) are irrelevant! Our virtual model drastically cuts down on overhead costs, allowing us to serve our clients better with more flexibility and efficient services. Do you need a face-to-face meeting? We can accommodate that as well!
